We care to make a difference

Our Residence

The Devonshire's layout provides a nice mix of quiet and communal areas. Each Resident can choose an atmosphere best suited to how she or he is feeling that day. Residents are not restricted to one area of their home, they are free to walk and explore throughout the building and in the safe, enclosed, back patio garden.

BEDROOMS

Residents can personalise their bedrooms as they wish. We provide a memory box (as example shown) for family to include special and treasured items and each room has a photo and name on the door for ease of finding their own room.

We encourage you to bring personal items and even furniture such as a favourite chair or pictures, a much-loved blanket or throw. The walls have been left bare deliberately, so that you can put up pictures.

Social Areas

The lounges and dining room on the ground floor overlook the sensory garden and patio. The Residents can enjoy a cozy 50's lounge with a fire place, a pop up pub as well as a pseudo kitchen to make tea and toast under supervision.

DINING AREAS

Delicious, freshly home-cooked meals which receive "excellent" reviews are served in our dining room. Residents have lots of choices about what they wish to eat, where and when. Mealtimes, particularly the main mid day meal, are a special time. All staff join our Residents to ensure it is a relaxed and social occasion.

If Residents wish to invite a relative or friend to join them for a meal, we are happy to arrange this .

The Garden

The tranquil garden and patio area is safe and secure and is used throughout the year when Residents need fresh air or explore and stretch their legs.

In the spring and summer the garden is a tranquil spot for quiet reflection, or gardening in the raised flower beds and herb table, or not so quiet summer BBQs.

Minibus

We have daily outings in our minibus and Residents look forward to sightseeing, exploring Kingston and the neighboring towns and villages.

History of the building

The Devonshire Dementia Care Home is a beautiful turn of the century mock Tudor style mansion, located in New Malden, Surrey.

The home itself has an abundance of history as a private residence. In the 1970s it moved from housing a family to housing older Residents. In very recent years, it has been fully renovated to reflect the needs of Residents, while keeping true to its original look and feel.

Residents and Staff enjoy the Devonshire because it is a home, is furnished like one, and is treated like one.
