DEMENTIA AWARENESS WORKSHOP ZOOM SERIES

During this unprecedented pandemic many families have been struggling with the care of their loved one living with dementia in the community. The old normal had many services to support their care at home such as adult day centres, drop-in groups, transportation, coffee mornings and singing groups etc. Unfortunately, due to the contagious nature of this virus and government guidelines these services remain closed with no end in sight. People living with dementia find it very confusing to have to wear masks and keep socially distant.
We have spoken to many families over these past months who have found having a place to call and share what is going on in their dementia journey, and being able to discuss ideas and alternatives regarding the confounding nature of dementia has helped them cope better.

Consequently, in response to requests from those of you who have been struggling with the care of your loved ones living with dementia in the community particularly during this period of crisis, we have put together a series of five 1.5 hour workshops on Zoom to help you understand the changes in the brain caused by dementia and how this awareness can improve the quality of care you provide for your loved one. It also includes advice on how to care for yourself as care partner.

Please note these workshops are for family members caring for persons living with dementia in the community, not staff or professionals working with people living with dementia. Several of our own family members will also participate. There will be a nominal fee to register and all proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society towards research.
